Windows

In order to promote the use of GNU/Linux, the windows version has a limited number of activities. It is possible to access all the activities for a fee.

Sounds like some developers are bumfucking RMS.

Perhaps I'm misinformed, but isn't Xchat released under a similar system?

Yes, but at least they do it because

Building XChat for Windows is a difficult process, it requires quite some skill and expertise to accomplish. It takes time, and is by no means automated. This version also has some value added features only for Windows, such as opening irc:// URLs from your web browser in an existing instance of xchat, spell checking and graphical emoticons.

That's some good freedom, right there.

There are better IRC clients for Windows anyway. I don't mind paying for software but if Microsoft was to charge for Linux software because it was hard to build, they wouldn't accept it.

I actually did a write-up about this a few hours ago over on the FUD Tracker:

There's so many contradictions about the cartoon alone, it hurts.

So they're denying children with Windows educational software?

And they said MS was bad for porting XP to the OLPC.

Frozen Bubble is like this too. Apparently, Windows users do not deserve to play an overrated puzzle bobble clone with crappy gimped penguins.

I'm not certain we're in the right thread here, but that was a funny take on it.

yeah, that's pretty messed up. It's not like kids usually get to decide what OS they get to use.

Shame on GCompris. That's a fucking despicable thing to do. If it was a note taking app or something, I wouldn't care, but it's a child's educational tool. It's not as if they have a choice of what they can use. What if Linux doesn't work on the system? Are you forcing them to pay an additional fee JUST BECAUSE they don't use an OS you like? I hope I never see these people on the street, because I will fucking deck them.

How comes it's okay for them to make an application which isn't compatible on Windows, but it's not fine for others to not make educational software on Linux? FOSS will never gain as much market share until they understand the basic fundamental which is:

Just because another company does it, doesn't mean they have to.

I might join you, can we maybe get a couple of RPGs and go pay RMS a visit afters?

I am actually sickened by this, and I do believe the irony has absolutely failed to hit them.

You know, we could take the code and convert it fully to Windows. It's GPL, after all.

If it's GPL, are they NOT breaking the term saying you're not allowed to sell it or any part of it?

There's nothing saying that in the GPL. You just have to supply the source code if you supply any binaries.
